Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach an eager, energetic group of kindergarten students. We are a Dual Language Classroom where students are learning how to speak, read and write in Spanish.
Each child comes to school eager and ready to learn.
Kindergarten is a very rigorous year. Students learn letter names, letter sounds, and the foundation of mathematics. We are on the move in our classroom. We are constantly mixing things up throughout the day. Large group, small group, partner work, and individual work opportunities are utilized daily. Finding the best way for everyone to learn is my goal.
My Project
These books will continue to enhance the print-rich classroom that I strive to create. My classroom library is a place that my students really enjoy. It is their favorite part of our classroom. I read on the carpet to them, they complete work there, and soon they will read independently! Every student book that is placed in my library is treated with love and care, and they are thankful for the opportunities to be there. All of these books have been chosen with my students in mind. The majority of the books are multicultural books.
Multicultural literature serves as a powerful tool in enabling students to gain a better understanding of both their own culture and the cultures of others.
As students of the 21st century are global participants, it is important that they possess cultural sensitivity.
This project also includes math games, math games can also encourage students to explore number combinations, place value, patterns, and other important mathematical concepts. Playing games encourages strategic mathematical thinking as students find different strategies for solving problems and deepen their understanding of numbers
This project also will provide materials to organize the math games and make them easily accessible to students.
