The Students in the Esperanza High School Choral program are wonderful kids who work very hard in their music studies daily. These students are in need of percussion instruments to use in performing multi cultural songs for concerts and festivals. These drums will be used for years to come, which will help inspire many young artists in their music studies within the Esperanza Choral Program. The students will perform their next multicultural piece for festival in the spring, and are in need of a percussion instruments. We hope to have help from donors like you to help provide these instruments for our singers to enrich their learning experience.
A little bit about the student demographics of the school.
Total enrollment is 1,732 students at Esperanza. 20% of these students are disadvantaged and 39% of the over all student population come from a minority background.
My Project
Students in the our Choral Program study many different types and genres of music in their music curriculum. When students sing multicultural pieces that require hand percussion (like the 2 djembe drums requested), they do not receive the full effect of the singing experience in rehearsal and in performance without drums. The over all experience with percussion (like the two djembe drums requested) being played is elevated, and helps students appreciate the beauty and importance of piece of music they perform. This helps students develop a new found genre of music study that they normally would not be exposed to any other way than traveling to a different country and experiencing the music and culture first hand.
The students will use these instruments in rehearsal and perform with them at ratings festival in early April 2019.
Many more students involved in the Esperanza Choral program continue to use these items for other singing performance projects/rehearsals/concerts as well.
