This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The students have been having Social Emotional learning lessons on racial justice and equity. We have entered into dialogues about different customs and traditions from around the world. It has been so exciting working on a large and elaborate mural depicting different people from around the world.

I have just started to create the outline and the students have already started to gather and talk about it.

It is like everything we have been taking about has finally clicked. They are excited to pass by the halls and see the progress of the mural. I have encountered the need for large erasers that are easy to spot for the students to be able to make marks on the wall. We also need sketchbooks to keep a record of the ideas we have and the people we want represented in the murals. We use our SEL time to plan for the mural.
