My Project

Our Elementary is working to create a Ready To Learn Room for students to use when they need time to reflect, access co-regulation, and prepare to return to class. Our hope is that this space empowers students by helping them learn ways to manage their emotions, increase their readiness to learn and build resilience. Through creating this space our goal is to keep students in school and ultimately provide regulation skills for them to use in the classroom, which in turn increases access to learning and community. We believe that this space will support a trauma informed approach through the use of co-regulation and will give students the opportunity to be taught the critical life skill of self-regulation. The RTL room will provide a safe space to implement responsive restorative practices by helping students understand the impact when there has been a conflict or wrongdoing, and move toward problem-solving, repairing harm, and restoration of relationships and community. Lastly, this space will provide an environment for students to regulate through a variety of sensory activities.
