My Students
My 18 first grade students live in rural Maine, with limited access to enriching activities. Funding activities in our district is difficult due to limited incomes and few cultural opportunities. 98% of our total school population gets free or reduced-price lunch so having extras in the classroom is not always possible. Despite the limited resources in our area available to them, my students are eager to participate in learning opportunities. My students are very capable of great things with the right resources.
My Project
By utilizing these materials during centers in my classroom it will allow students to work both independently and collaboratively on improving their spelling in an engaging and interactive way.
Multi-Sensory activities allow students to be kinesthetic hands on learners.
Unfortunately school budgets don't always allow for the materials needed for these types of activities. Students are able to retain information when they are able to practice in multiple ways. Bringing variety into the way my learners practice spelling will allow me to reach more students and meet more students learning needs.
These materials will be utilized for years to come as they are all re-usable. The Laminating Sheets will make it so that the paper portion of these centers will also be re-usable.
