My Students
I am a special education teacher working in a classroom with six amazing kindergarten - 2nd grade students who all have a diagnosis of Autism.
Each of my students is unique in their own way, including their learning styles, their strengths, and their needs.
Working with my students has enabled me to better understand not only their academic needs, but how their behavioral deficits, speech and language impairments, and sensory-processing needs affect their ability to participate in the classroom. The progress each of my students has made during the school year is inspiring, and I look forward to continuing to help them succeed on their educational journey.
My Project
My students need multi-sensory teaching to help them engage in learning. My students are beginning readers working on a range of skills from letter identification and letter sounds to breaking down CVC words and reading sight words.
The materials I am requesting will allow me to address all of these skills through a multi-sensory approach (visual, auditory, tactile) so I can support each of my student's learning styles.
The Word Work, Phonemic Awareness, and Alphabet File Folder Libraries can be used during direct instruction to target individual needs, during small group learning, and as independent workstation activities to build mastery. Many of my students are non-verbal and emerging verbal so they need materials that will allow them to participate and express their understanding using alternative methods of communication such as The Learning Letter Activity Centers and Touch and Read CVC Word Match. By making instruction accessible and engaging, I can help my students develop the foundational reading skills they need to succeed.
