My students need a multi-sensory approach to learning their letters. The requested sensory tubs, Build-a-Word Houses, and Hear Myself Sound Phones would be an amazing blessing. Most of my students do not come to school with any prior knowledge of letters or sounds.
Hi! Thank you for your consideration of my DonorsChoose.org project. I am a kindergarten teacher at a Title 1 school that services children living in poverty. Our school is 100% free and reduced lunch. Students in my classroom are a diverse population socioeconomically as well as culturally.
I believe that every classroom should be welcoming, comforting, and support the needs of all students.
Many of my students require a multi-sensory approach to learning. They need to be moving, engaged in motion, and working with their five senses.
My Project
These materials will offer my students a hands-on approach to learning. They are fun and engaging activities that will allow students to work independently or in small groups while I am working with other students. These materials will create great centers for all students. The kids will be delighted when they see these materials.
These materials will help all students to learn in a fun and engaging way.
There are high expectation for these learners. I strive to create an environment where children gain a love of learning that will last a lifetime. These materials will help cement this goal for my students.
Feel and Find sensory tubs will help students with special needs, and student who struggle to learn with traditional paper pencil activities be successful. These tubs help struggling learners to see and feel each letter.
The Write Letter activity will be used for a station. Instead of writing on paper, students will use magnetic boards to form letters. This is an eco-friendly activity that kindergarten students will love.
One of my favorite requests is this Float and Find Alphabet station. The water element of this station can help students with Autism, or other sensory processing disorders to be actively engaged finding and naming letters. Water is often a calming element for children with special needs.
Most students love to build with blocks. The Build a Word Houses are a great way to let students create with blocks while learning word patterns and word families.
The Hear my Sounds headphones will help students hear specific phonemes while they are working of decoding words. I have many English Language Learners in my class. These headphones will allow students to hear their own voices as they read. What a blessing these items will be to my young readers!
