This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are incredible. I could never describe them in one word. They are students that come from low-income families and have a wide range of special needs.
These students never let their disability stop them from reaching their goals.
They work hard, harder than an average student. We have a lot of fun together and they truly are "my kids." They make me want to be a better teacher every day and I am always looking for ways to help them.
My Project
Please help my class get a class set of the book A Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Park. We are would like to start a new unit in our class where we learn about other cultures and how children in those cultures live.
By learning how other cultures are similar and different to us, we can open our minds to the world at large.
A lot of my students have never left their community, so through the gift of books, I will be able to show them different cultures and countries that they may not know about. Multi-cultural reading is gift that needs to be given to our middle school students, so that they can learn about different customs, languages, and cultures.
