My students need 50 multi-cultural books, including "Too Many Tamales", "Hershel and the Hanukkah Goblins" and "John Henry: An American Legend".

I teach a great class of 20 fifth graders! They are very curious about themselves and the world. We are in a low income area, and any exposure that the students get to the world outside of our immediate city is of great importance! Many students have parents who are very busy and unable to take them to experience the busy world around us.

I am trained as a culturally responsive teacher for the school I work in. In order to do my best at this, and in order to expose my students to new cultures, vocabulary, and literature, we need a set of multi-cultural books to use for many types of activities. I also want to be a resource for the other teachers in my building, as they become more interested in culturally relevant teaching and learning.

My group of students (and future ones, as well!) will gain so much knowledge from a set of selected books from Barnes and Noble. There is no way in the school budget (or my personal budget!)to get all the authentic literature resources I need to empower my students.

This gift would literally mean the "world" to a great group of kids that truly deserve more than they are able to experience!
