Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our classroom includes students of many different ethnic, economic and linguistic backgrounds. We learn in Spanish and in English (we are a dual immersion school), though children bring other languages to the classroom too, from Mam to Lao to Cantonese. Some of us are recent immigrants.

One thing that all of us have in common is a love of fun and friendship.

Most of my students are 5 or 6 years old, and they learn best through play, movement, art, music, exploration and collaboration.

My Project

This project will allow three kindergarten classes to visit Muir Woods to kick off our unit of study on trees. On the field trip, docents from WildCare will lead our students on a nature walk to observe trees and learn more about different types of trees, what animals live in trees, and how people depend on trees.

The field trip will help our students have a good beginning framework for answering the question, “Why are trees important?” which will guide our unit of study.

When we return to the classroom, we will be studying different types of trees, the parts of a tree, how trees help people and animals, and the properties of wood and paper.
