Much Needed Tech For Enthusiatic Autistic Students!
My students need two tablets and accessories
to do all the things that will make them successful learners with such individualized needs and learning styles.
I'm a K-3 Autism Special Education teacher and I teach in a Self-contained applied behavioral analysis setting. All my students have significant learning delays and significant behavioral challenges. My students require high hours of individualized instruction. The topics of instruction for interventions include: academics, social, emotional, and behavioral.
I care for some of the most Autistic and fragile learners in my school both academically and emotionally.
Most of my lovely students have more than just Autism. They also are emotionally disturbed, developmental delayed, or learning disabled on top of the Autism. Many students come from low-income housing and receive free or reduced breakfast and lunch. This year specifically, many of my students show a need for extreme individualized instruction and instruction tools.
Every day brings something new and exciting. My students are thoughtful, fun, caring, and full of lots and lots of energy! They come to school each day knowing it is a safe place to grow and learn!
My Project
My students come to school every day ready to learn! Their willingness and eagerness to learn are what drives me to teach them in the best way possible. My hardworking students currently have minimal technology readily available to them inside our classroom. Working in a district with minimal funding and a tight budget, the hope of getting tablets for my classroom funded by the district is very slim. In a world revolved around technology, that can often be disheartening to my hard working students. They often state how they wish they had tablets, or have to take turns using the minimal tech we have in class.
Being a special education teacher for student's with Autism who are DRIVEN by technology, I witness how Autism can often interfere with their progress, while knowing how technology with tablets could foster their progress.
My amazing students can become frustrated or aggressive when learning a new skill. Most students do not have enough verbal language to voice their frustrations. Technology and tablets is a great way to bridge the gap between that frustration. Using these requested tablets will be a fun way to introduce and reinforce new skills to help my students grow! It will create excitement in their new learning.
My special needs students love computers and tablets, but I do not have enough for each student. I would love for more students to feel more comfortable using technology to learn. They would use technology to look up unknown things, to use educational apps, and to practice their reading and math skills. These tablets will also be used to encourage the use of communication apps so that more students in my class can learn how to express their needs and wants.
