My Students
Let me start by saying my students just light up my whole life. I look forward to coming to work each and every day to see their smiling faces. These kids have all of the potential in the world, but they are living in some really unfortunate and devastating circumstances. Some of the things that my kindergartners are going through, or have already gone through, are things that I may never experience in my lifetime. Even though these little people are carrying around the weight of the world on their shoulders, they still come to my classroom with a thirst for knowledge and a love for learning and spending time with their teacher who loves them.
I teach at an under-served school on the South side of Chicago.
My school is nearly 100% African-American and the majority of our students are from low income homes.
Everything in my classroom, except some of the furniture, has come directly out of my pocket. I will do whatever I have to to give my students the education they deserve.
My Project
Having a printer in our classroom will greatly benefit my students. Teaching in CPS can oftentimes be very difficult. It isn't difficult because of the children. It is difficult due to our lack of resources. Due to our great lack of resources, teachers in my building are very limited on the copies that they make. The copy limit is is never enough for us.
Having this printer will allow me to be able to print out lots of different books regularly.
Being able to use online resources to print out books for my students will allow me to reach more kids. I will be able to keep them interested to better their reading levels.
