Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Research proves that one of the best methods for struggling readers to increase their fluency is to listen to someone read. I run the resource room at a middle school in East San Jose, CA. I serve the needs of 30 7th and 8th grades who have mild/ moderate learning disabilities, and all of whom are years below in reading levels. As their range is from 2-4th grade in reading, the best way for me to reach their individual needs as readers is to set up listening centers. At a listening center, students can spend a few hours a week reading along to a book closer to their grade level than they would ever be able to read by themselves. For a 14-year-old who usually has to read a 2nd grade level book in order to understand, it can be a real boost in confidence to be able to read a 5th grade level book through listening to a CD or cassette. Please help the students at Mathson Middle school go up years in reading levels this year! Help give struggling readers the chance to gain back confidence in their reading skills. Please donate to give us two listening centers for the resource room.
