What can I say about Wilson's Wonders? My PreK Students are curious, energetic, and ready to investigate the wonderful world that surrounds them. Our theme song is "Wonder" by Emeli Sande. We play it every morning, and as a signal for transitions throughout the school day.
My students are from low income homes.
Most are eligible for free and reduced lunch. My school is a Title I school located in Ward 8 in Washington, DC. This year, our school has adopted the Responsive Classroom approach. This approach promotes student equity, and community building.
Every morning, we start our day with Morning Meeting. This large group activity promotes community, literacy, oral language, and math skills through its four components. The chart rack would help me to implement a smooth Morning Meeting. We create a different chart every day that the children read and use to direct sharing, how we greet each other, and what wonderful things will be happening in our classroom each day. I also create puppets, and other interactive tools to bring story time alive, and make lessons interactive. I also love to encourage my students' oral language and creative thinking through their writings. Each day, the students are given the opportunity to journal. In the beginning, the students draw pictures, and dictate their thoughts to us (the teachers) to write down for them. As the school year progresses, students begin to write on their own using words they know, words from the word wall, and inventive spelling.
This project will help my Wonders in so many ways!
Most importantly, allowing me to create interactive activities that will promote my student's oral language, and literacy skills. It is my hope that their experience in my class will give them a solid foundation, and lifetime love for learning.
