Ms. R's Kindergarten Class Journey to SocioEmotional and Academic Success!
My students need sand and water tables to facilitate sensory learning and social-emotional books for them to develop social skills. Research shows that sensory exploration is essential in early childhood education.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Hello, I am a first-year kindergarten teacher and my kindergarteners are absolutely amazing. They are bright and eager to learn. Over 90% of my students identify as African-American/Black. Many of my students qualify for free/reduced lunch, and my school qualifies for Title 1 funds.
My goal is to ensure that each of my bright, talented kindergarten scholars can excel to reach their fullest potential.
However, financial strains have begun to inhibit the quality of education that I can offer my students. As a first-year teacher and recent college graduate, I have been hard-pressed to purchase all the supplies that would help me to provide the best quality of education for my students. I am hoping this project will make a huge impact on the tools that I can use to further my students' education.
My Project
This project will provide my classroom with a library of socio-emotional read-aloud books, and two sand/water tables for sensory, play-based learning. I have come to learn that socio-emotional education is just as important as academic education. This project will help me to transform my teaching practice so that I can integrate social skills with academic content, fostering the well-being of the whole child.
These social-emotional books will be pivotal in helping my young scholars develop social skills.
The water table, sand table, and other various materials will be essential to my ability to integrate more sensory and play-based learning into our classroom. With these tools, I will be equipped to offer my young scholars a holistic education.
