Kindergarten is such an exciting group of mixed interests, abilities, and goals. Some of my students are learning to read, write, and count, while some of their classmates are learning to imitate sounds or hold a pencil. My group loves to play outside, learn new games, and boogie to a sweet tune.
In this class, we build a community around what we have in common and our shared experiences.
We are part of a larger school that celebrates inclusion. I teach in a school with 4 kindergarten classrooms, three general education and one co-taught classroom. As my students make gains in my classroom, they begin to try small chunks of the day with their typically developing peers. My classroom is about building skills to get included. The work we do in this classroom is building relationships, staying with the group, following directions, and accessing general education content in different ways. We celebrate little wins together each and every day.
My Project
Young children learn by imagining and doing. Have you ever watched a child pick up a stone and pretend it is a zooming car, or hop a Lego across the table as if it were a person or a bunny? The child is using an object to represent something else while giving it action and motion. But this pretend play is not as simple as it may seem. The process of pretending builds skills in many essential developmental areas.
Imaginative play is an essential part of our everyday schedule.
This is a time where the children can experiment with decision making and use their imagination. It is important to have toys and games that spark my students' interests and curiosity. The products that I have selected will not only allow enhancing my students' social and emotional skills, language skills, and thinking skills but these products will bring them so much joy!
