Help me give my students their notebooks, pens and pencils the supplies I require to start my students off on the pathway to success in the 2019-2020 school year.
I am teaching in a Title I school, 90% of our students are from low-income families who are on free or reduced lunch programs. A great majority of my students are a diverse range of ethnic backgrounds. My classes focus on career training in the medical field, which prepares students for real-life careers and college for those who are fortunate to go on. These careers are essential for these students coming from low-income families as it allows them to take care of their families and move out of the lowest 10% income bracket.
These first-generation U.S.
citizens will often be the first in their families to graduate from high school and have a career. Many may not have the opportunity to go beyond in education besides the career they obtain here at our high school.
I want every student to start the school year off with all the supplies needed for my class.
My Project
Having the materials needed the first day of school instead of the materials trickling in over the first week or two gives myself and my students the advantage of moving right into the first lesson from orientation right away.
Time is lost when materials are not present the first week and the teacher is finding the students paper, pens to use meanwhile.
Having materials for everyone at the same time, lessons can begin right away for everyone. All notebooks and colored ink are uniform and ever student has their pencil for testing. All my students are well prepared for my medical class!
