My first grade students represent many cultures and backgrounds. I work hard to make our classroom a place for all learners to feel safe to be themselves and make mistakes from which to grow. I see it as one of my primary objectives to help my students become happy, healthy, productive members of society. They make my job a joy and motivate me to seek out the very best for them.
I want my first graders to be curious, ask questions, and be joyful, lifelong learners.
Part of my job is to motivate them by giving them a sense of agency and choice. They will be more invested in their learning if they have some say in what we are doing and how we are doing it. To this end, I seek creative and diverse materials and resources.
My Project
My first graders are zooming off into their reading journeys, traveling to mythical places, going back in time and learning about history, laughing with funny characters, eagerly asking me for the next book in a series. It's always so exciting for them when there are new books to crack open and dive into. I am seeking 67 new books to add to my classroom library: some non-fiction, some new series, some missing titles from series I already have, some for the more advanced readers and some for the more struggling readers.
It shows my students that we value their education when we provide them with beautiful new books.
I also like to keep my classroom library fresh with the latest exciting titles and authors.
An added bonus is that these books last for many years to come and will benefit students that haven't even been born yet! Thank you for supporting my teaching, our classroom, and public education!
