This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach small groups of 3rd and 4th grade students with Special Education Needs. My caseload is full of eager, excited learners with varying strengths, abilities, and needs. My students have needs that can't always be met in a traditional classroom environment- including different seating options, places to take a break, and sensory tools to use.
This past year, I've watched my students defy odds and face challenges no one thought they could overcome.
I've been inspired day after day by their talents and their willingness to always try, no matter how tough something seems. My students are working on skills anywhere from Kindergarten to Sixth grade level in some cases, which is why differentiation is key in this classroom.
My Project
As a Special Education teacher, I pull students out of their general education classes for Intervention Services daily. I'm so excited at the thought of having reliable technology I can lesson plan around, daily.
Having Amazon Fire tablets that stay in my classroom will give my learners the consistency they need!
Our small groups can be further differentiated. We will be able to use exciting and engaging literacy and math apps, while working at our own levels.
Our students are expected to provide their own headphones, but they never make it through the year. It's always a hassle and a waste of precious time to find working pairs. The headphones will be kept in my room, so my kiddos don't have to hunt for a pair. The storage drawers will help me keep our new tablets organized along with our existing guided reading materials. Lastly, the hanging file will keep my students' individual work organized!
