My students need new classroom library books that allow for them to read books that are reflective of themselves, as well as gain a love for informative reading.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students from Chicago excel in learning that is representative and reflective of their personal experiences. They are creative, thoughtful, empathetic individuals who benefit from hands on learning experiences, as well as experiences that allow for them to learn in a "mirror" manner. They come to school each day ready to learn and tackle today's issues. They are truly my inspiration and ignite my passion for teaching.
Our school is located in the beautiful City of Chicago, and is extremely reflective of the diverse community in which we are located.
Each child in my classroom absolutely loves learning, especially when it is reflective of themselves, as well as current events. In our classroom we believe that collaboration, differentiation, and representation are key in being successful members of society. The only thing they are missing is a classroom library that is reflective of who they are, and the things that go on in the world today. This class is full of the leaders of tomorrow, and truly deserves that absolute best when it comes to education.
My Project
Books that are reflective of my students will allow for them to obtain a love for reading they may have never experienced. These novels, informative texts, and graphic novels will allow each and every student in my classroom to find a book that they can connect with. From books about the inner-city to ones that will teach coding, every student will be able to find a piece of themselves in the books selected for my library revamp.
Our classroom library is a place my students enjoy, however as they get older they begin to disconnect with the titles they are presented.
It is my goal to find books that allow for my students to continue to strengthen their love of reading. These books will allow for my students to grow stronger in reading fluency and comprehension.
Furthermore, these books will strengthen my students' abilities to independently read and select books on their own. Mirrored reading selections will allow for my students to connect with reading for enjoyment.
