I am starting my first year teaching energetic and encouraged second graders. I have a diverse group of students that need a distinct learning environment. Second graders are still young and not quite ready to sit in regular desk for long periods of time. They need movement that flexible seating allows. I am excited to spend my first year learning with these kiddos and hope to create an environment that enhances their learning to the best of their abilites. Flexible seating will encourage leadership in my students which will allow them to succeed.
My Project
Flexible seating will have an incredible impact on my students' classroom learning. It will enable them to be more dedicated by allowing choice, comfort, collaboration, and commitment to learning. During my student teaching internship I was able to learn how to implement flexible seating. This changed my complete outlook on education. I saw how responsible and hardworking the students were with having their choice of seats and not having to sit in regular desk throughout the day. I also saw how it positively impacted classroom management. I hope to fill my classroom with this same environment. I have many different flexible seating options for different parts of my classroom. Students will be allowed to choose between exercise balls, wobble chairs, wobble cushions, and boncy bands. The previously mentioned items will help students get their wiggles out and be prepared for learning. I also have added inflatable donuts which will be a flexible seating option for students who are reading together or individually. Last, I have inclueded a hand print rug, which is the perfect diverse rug for my students to sit on during morning meeting and times of learning mini lessons.
