Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Third grade is such an important year for kids because it is the first year that they take the Texas state exam, the STAAR test. In order to get them ready for this test, I share with my students the love of books and reading. The students in my class end up being book lovers within the first three weeks of school! I also try to keep my students abreast of the latest news happening in our city, state and country! This is to ensure that students will one day become productive members of society!

My school is home to English as a second language students and a little over one third of the students are from low-income family.

My Project

These materials will provide my students with nonfiction articles in the subjects of math, science, social studies, and safety topic. This creates a curriculum for my students that is all encompassing! We will focus on building content knowledge and vocabulary everyday when we read the Scholastic News magazine. Most times children are not exposed to nonfiction topics like these. I want to make my students more worldly and aware of what is happening around them in hopes they will become good citizens as adults. Using this Scholastic News magazine will help my students grow in all aspects of their education.
