My Students

I have a classroom full of energetic learners excited to be back in school this fall. They have missed school and are relieved to be back with friends and getting to do some hands-on learning. They come from a diverse background with unique cultures and a variety of different social economic status. One of the best ways to meet all of their needs is to provide lots of practice using manipulatives to really help create concrete learning.

My Project

The students this year missed out on learning about fractions at the end of their 4th grade year. They are struggling to make sense of fractions this year as we head into more complex concepts. By reviewing these skills in a fun game, they will be able to gain the needed skills to show mastery of the 6th grade skills. We have been sharing a classroom set of calculators which has become increasingly problematic now that Omicron is so contagious and spreading to young children. Getting more calculators with help with the safety in our classroom. It has been difficult to staff our STEM class because so many adults are out with COVID currently. A fun engaging STEM activity will be helpful when there isn't a STEM teacher and we can't find a substitute.
