Help me give my students fiction and non-fiction books written by authors of backgrounds that match their own. These books celebrate that America is full of different types of people, just like my classroom.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have the pleasure in teaching in a culturally diverse area where my students come from a variety of different backgrounds. They have their own unique struggles and experiences. Because of this, a large number of my students come from low-income households where their families struggle to provide supports and resources to help them succeed. Additionally, because I have the privilege of teaching diverse students, so many of my students do not have the opportunity to read stories that mirror their lives.
To promote literacy and belonging in my classroom, I am trying to put together a more comprehensive and inclusive classroom library.
While my students tend to thrive in our small school, because of our size, we lack access to all of the resources that larger high schools have. This, unfortunately, translates to fewer books. I would very much love your help in building a better classroom library for my students.
My Project
These books will help my students feel represented and valued in my classroom. For our final project of the year, my students will be challenged to select a book of their choice and make a case for it being added to my American Literature class curriculum. I want to be able to provide my students with plenty of books to choose from.
All students deserve to see themselves reflected back in their stories they read, whether White, Black, or Brown; straight, gay, or bisexual; male, female, or non-binary; citizen or immigrant.
I have all of these students in my classes and I want them to be able to advocate for the inclusion of books that showcase and celebrate their stories.
