My students need fluency, comprehension, and reading skill kits for our literacy centers.

Every day my Pearls are told "the world is their oyster". They know reading is one of the skills that will help them succeed now and in the future. My students are currently working extremely hard to improve their reading skills and they enjoy listening to and learning about new stories every day.
Ms. Earl's Pearls are P-Persevering, E-Energetic, A-Affectionate, R-Reading, L-Loving, S-Students.
My students have established their own sense of pride for reading and learning! We practice showing joy, love, teamwork, and grit day in and day out of the classroom. My students come ready to learn each and every day and they are ready to tackle the challenges that lie ahead of them in the classroom. I am so proud of the warm classroom culture we have fostered. Everyone knows we are a team and we must work hard but most importantly work together to achieve our goals. The students in my classroom are from low income communities on the east side of Indianapolis. We pride ourselves as a school for working hard to provide our students with the academic skills and the character strengths necessary to be successful in and out of the classroom. Our goal... Our mission is to get to and through college!
These reading kits will be a vital resource for my students in the classroom. My students are progressing as readers and they need more literacy activities that will help them master the skills necessary to be great readers. These reading center kits will help them improve their fluency skills, comprehension skills, and help them identify important story elements. We currently do not have any reading center resources for literacy rotations. During rotations students are currently reading in guided reading groups, completing writing packets, and spending time on computers. With these new reading centers students will be able to have self-correcting activities that are focused on the skills they need to master in order to be great readers. All in all, my students understand that reading is important and these new reading kits will help keep my students invested and engaged while improving their reading skills.
Having these new kits will allow my students to have more practice time in the classroom to improve and focus in on the reading skills they need to master.
In addition, these reading centers will give my students the self-correcting activities they need to be successful during literacy rotations. Again, we currently do not have any literacy centers for rotations. All in all, I believe these centers are going to help lead my Pearls to the path of being great readers!
