My Students

This year I'll be working with a group of curious, kind, adventurous 5th graders. They were my little 4th graders last year and I am so excited to be looping up with them for this school year. Many of them are new to the country but have already become little New Yorkers ready to take on the city.

As bilingual students, these kiddos have had to tackle reading and writing in two languages across multiple subjects.

They've also had to grapple with overcoming some major learning gaps. Instead of shrinking in the face of their challenges they blew me away with their willingness to stay after school, ask friends for help during lunch, or even ask for a little extra work to practice at home.

My Project

Each year, more and more students come into my classroom having recently come to this country. One thing that helps them feel that they belong and are valued is the creation of custom materials in their home language. It lets them know that their teacher cares about their education and will put in the time, effort, and money to give them what they need. Unfortunately, without a printer in the classroom, I don't always have the flexibility to offer some of these resources in real time. A printer would help me to provide my bilingual students with the support they need.
