My 19 second graders are full of creativity and energy. Each child enters our cottage with such unique perspectives and wonderful imaginations about our world that we live in. While I cannot control what their home life is like, I want their school life to be their own favorite home away from home.
I would love for our classroom to feel as inclusive and personalized as possible where they can feel safe to share their new found knowledge, opinions, hopes, and dreams!
Do you remember bustling to the rug as a student to hear your favorite read aloud from your teacher? How about your favorite calendar song that you chanted as a class at the front of your room?
For an inclusive more student centered environment, I love working with my students on the floor at the front of the room as much as possible.
We do community building morning meetings together in a circle. We have our exercises to get our wiggles as well. I also like to work with them to do fun interactive activities on the floor. Our class is hoping to get a new classroom rug that can be used to make this happen, so that students feel comfortable in their learning!
