This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
7th grade is a big year for mathematics, students are taking what they learned in sixth grade and digging even deeper! Unfortunately, most of my students can't afford scientific calculators, so having sixty calculators for our students during math class and testing would be extremely helpful!
The Eagle Academy for Young Men of Southeast Queens is an all boys public school within the New York City Department of Education.
The Eagle Academy is a high needs / Title I school. Our students are amazing young men striving for a wonderful education that leads to successful college experience.
My Project
The students at the Eagle Academy are bright and wonderful young men, some just happen to come from a rough background. This project will help the young men not have to worry about another school supply. When they come to math, a calculator will be readily available to them. During testing, instead of struggling to make sure every student has one, our school will have plenty available with no worries. A math manipulative set, with the new shift to common core will be amazing, it will give the students a hands-on learning experience and be an extra tool for struggling students.
These students mean the world to me, I had them for math in the sixth grade and am looking forward to having them again this year to see them continue to progress.
This project will help all of our 7th graders succeed further in math this year! These children truly are amazing. Thank you for your help!
