This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are from Watts, California, and are part of an English special day class program. We have a smaller classroom setting and the opportunity for lots of fun discussions and idea explorations. Because of this, we also have some students working at different paces than others. My students have written to me before that their ideal classroom has lots of fun book options to explore new ideas and places. The library is difficult to make time to go and the selection can sometimes be limited. Students are so quick to pull out their phones when they feel there is nothing to occupy them anymore. I want to encourage this desire to branch out in reading as much as possible

My Project

These books will give students an opportunity to explore reading outside of the school-provided books in a variety of genres and stories. This will help to encourage reading and exploration of words and sentence structures. This will also encourage the students to ask questions about different lives and stories in the world.

The books will be available to the students when they have completed their work and at lunch and break times to explore stories and expand their knowledge and vocabulary.

I have carefully picked books I loved and recommendations I have gotten from fellow teachers.
