My students need two copies of the news 2018-2019 Sunshine State Reader Books. A few of the titles are Lights, Camera, Cook!, I Love You, Michael Collins, Wish, Podkin One-Ear, and The Sweetest Sound.
A typical day in my classroom, as well as my reading class, consists of students that are self-motivated to reach personally set goals in reading! My challenge is for each child to read every book on the 2018-2019 Sunshine State Reading List!
I have a group of motivated fifth-grade readers that love a challenge as well as a great book!
They attend a charter school in central Florida. Many students are on free/reduced lunch, but they never let their economic status deter their love for reading! My school promotes literacy and encourages each child to read every night. When they aren't working in class you will see them with a book in their hand working towards personally set reading goals.
My Project
Have you ever been so engrossed in a book that you couldn't put it down? When you finished your book were you dying to share it? I want to give my students the opportunity to read and create a book trailer using an iPad App and through technology, they can share their love of their Sunshine State book with others!
In addition, using this set of books will help my fifth graders reach their personally set reading goals as well as giving them a way to share and advertise their book to others!
I envision them reading each book from the list and checking it off as another notch towards their success! My students can create literature circles, write about their reading experiences, and make book trailer presentations about their favorite Sunshine State Reader book! Test scores will improve with consistent and nightly reading. I feel the students will deeply appreciate the contribution.
