My students make up a variety of ability levels. They are all enthusiastic learners with hearts of gold. They come from a variety of backgrounds; including students with IEPs and students learning English as their second language. For many, the only hot meal they will get will be served to them at school. They come to school eager to learn and I am sure to welcome them each morning with open arms.
As an educator for nearly 20 years in schools with high percentages of students receiving free or reduced lunch, I am used to providing many supplies for them.
But now for the first time in my career, I am asking for help. We would love a rug large enough for us to have our class meetings and where we can share read-alouds together. This year, I am hoping to implement some new writing techniques to motivate students to write creatively. I would like to introduce various tools, techniques and strategies and give the students ownership of their learning as they recognize the ways that they learn best. This project includes book shelves to organize materials, as well as the tools needed for my young writers.
My Project
The shelving units, baskets and white boards will enhance learning in our classroom by keeping our tools organized and attractive, motivating students to engage in their learning.
A classroom carpet that clearly defines each person's personal space will allow us to come together, yet give us the space we need to be comfortable and happy.
Thinking about having these items in our room makes me excited to meet my new classroom family! I am always inspired by my students ideas and their drive to keep getting better. I cannot wait to share the success of this project with them all!
