Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom moves around like a carousel and my students lead the way! My classroom is very unique in that I have a wide array of children filtering through in order to get their specific needs met.
My students have many different strengths and weaknesses.
I have 6 children who are in my special education classroom all day because of their disabilities. In addition, I run many different intervention groups to target the reading, writing, math, and social skills of general education students who are struggling. Although they all have special needs, they are all very unique and deserve the same access as their typical peers. The socio-economic status of the students at my school is primarily low income and they do not have the same opportunities or experiences as children with higher level of incomes. Many of my students have never used any type of technology prior to entering my class. Their families are focused on being able to put food on the table and provide their children with the basics like pencils, paper, and books.
My Project
Since I have such a diverse set of students and needs in my classroom throughout the day, iPads will allow my students who are not receiving direct instruction to get the most out of their group time. They will use the iPads to access academic programs such as ST math, sight word, abc mouse, and starfall. In addition to making progress in their academic skills the iPads can allow myself and support staff to reinforce positive behaviors within the classroom by using class dojo. Another valuable skill the children will gain from having iPads is the ability to navigate the technology that will dominate their everyday lives as adults.
iPads in my classroom will provide my students with unique and crucial opportunity to learn technological skills that they wouldn't have access to otherwise.
Learning these skills will make them better prepared for the rigorous academics they will encounter as they get older. Furthermore, they will know how to use the technology that is required for them to enter the workforce and be competitive applicants for jobs in their future.
