I have a multi grade level class that consists of 17 fourth through eight graders who I teach all subjects in class each day. To some they may feel that this is a challenge but my students are amazing and support each other as we learn and grow together each day. While they are fluent in English, their language that is spoken throughout the colony and at home is Hutterite/German which is their first language.
It has been an amazing experience getting to know them and about their Hutterite culture.
My students are respectful, hard working and truly come to school with a willingness to learn. It is my primary purpose to preserve their culture while giving them the tools and resources to be successful.
My Project
Imagine having round table discussions in rectangle deso and tables? It's quite impossible to do and its very distracting to drag and move tables as the other students are working. The kidney table that I am requesting will allow me to have small group discussions in math, reading and writing each day. This table will be our meeting point where students check in and check out with me each day.
This table is of upmost importance to create a classroom culture of collaboration as well as for me to check on my students work and provide feedback as needed.
Currently my students are in desk and various tables which make for a difficult collaborative learning environment.
