Help me give my students the opportunity to explore the world of mathematics and science in more inviting nontraditional ways. These tools will also foster greater communication and conflict resolution skills; thus, a better community.

Our student population of 341 comes from a local housing project, and 100% receive free lunch. Ours is a greatly impoverished community, with high crime and violence. Our school is immediately adjacent to local low income housing where over 87% of the total student population resides.
Our learners are from an extremely violent community where many of our students life have been affected, experiencing first hand the devastation.
Of this population males are significantly at-risk.
More importantly, there remains a greater male population with low benchmarks in the areas of phonics, reading comprehension and Language Arts and Science and Math. Most students are at least one grade level behind counterparts across America and abroad. Our school system has high turnover for both educators and administrators.
The learners are alway eager to learn. Hailing from an impoverished community makes many of the learners feel disconnected and undesired. By allowing them to utilize these tools, we are promoting the building of community partneships for both the present and future. When exploring with hands on objects learners have the opportunity to express themselves in a more nontraditional way. The feel important and buy in to the concept intended to be delivered.
Research shows that learners make a greater connection when allowed to explore through hands-on experiences. The goal of this project is to promote a safe space where all learners feel they are valued. The following resources will provide hands-on engagement: WeDo 2.0, Creative LEGO DUPLO Brick Set, BD530X - Power Pen!® - Set of 4HH828 - Children’s Timer - Set of 6 ,DD468 - Visualize Math Write & Wipe Boards,DD103 - Write & Wipe Thin-Line Markers - 4-Color Set BD527 - Multiplication Power Pen!® Quiz. They will promote kinesthetic experiences, allowing for collaboration and creation; thereby, promoting classroom and community partnerships.
Learners make connections through kinesthetic experiences.
Even if you don’t have access to expensive… hardware, every classroom can become a makerspace where kids and teachers learn together through direct experience with an assortment of high and low tech materials.” ~ Gary Stager and Sylvia Martinez.
It’s about a place, about a community. Through collaboration, learners have the opportunity to forge bonds building mindset of community partnership, collaboration, and creation.
