This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach 21 amazing students at an inner city Title I school. My students come from diverse family backgrounds and each have their own unique challenges. Since many of my students read below level a big goal we have as a class is to improve in reading.
We work hard together every day as a school family to overcome the challenges my students face & be successful in the classroom.

My Project
Most of my students read below grade level with many reading 2 or more levels below. I'm a 1st year teacher without many books for my classroom & the ones I purchased at the beginning of the year before meeting my students are too hard for them to read. I also do not have an area for the students to read comfortably.
Having a comfortable, inviting library area & books my students can read independently will help them improve their reading skills, particularly comprehension & give them confidence.
It will foster a love of reading leading to overall academic success.
