Mrs. Liontonia from Bridgeport CT is requesting Computers & Tablets through DonorsChoose, the #1 classroom funding site for teachers.

Mrs. L's Resource Kids

My students need computers that work in the Resource Room for special education students. These students have learning disabilities and require support at school to complete assignments.

My Students

My students are special because the town they live in is an urban community. Bridgeport Public School district is a large urban district that serves approximately 21,000 students in 37 schools (29 elementary/middle, 5 high, 3 alternative). The district serves an ethnically diverse student population (49% Hispanic/Latino, 37% Black/African American, 10% White, 4% other). Bridgeport is one of the poorest cities in Connecticut with 28% of its school-aged children living in poverty. District offers free and reduce lunch program.

A majority of students do not have parent support for homework after school.

Many parents either work evenings or are unable to help students due to lack of education. Without parent support homework often is inaccurate. Therefore having proper materials to support students would benefit student academic growth.

Resource room students are special education students with learning disabilities. These student benefit from multi sensory tools for learning.

My Project

These are special education students that require teacher support in school. Parents are unable to provide adequate support at home for homework completion and study time.

The student's work hard and technology is important for learning to be successful.

Technology offers visuals and tactile learning strategies that improve the learning process. Therefore having proper materials to support students would benefit student academic growth. This is where these materials make a difference in the students learning and improve their school lives. The students appreciate the support they and they want to continue into their high school years. Education is valuable for these students and they greatly appreciate the support.
