This was my first year teaching and I had a large number of students on I.E.P.s and most had focus and behavioral challenges. It was very hard in the beginning of year to create a safe and focused learning community, but once we got to know each other, the fun began. I experienced and learned each and every personality and that made for a very entertaining classroom. I never knew what the day would bring and that made my job of teaching this group challenging, yet exciting and memorable.
My students were so full of energy, full of questions, and very competitive.
I tried to make each learning experience a game in which they can be proud of themselves as well as be more supportive and helpful to their classmates.
My Project
Going into my second year of teaching, I have a long list of materials I do not have to make learning fun! With no Science curriculum provided we as teachers need to reach deep into our creative minds and make our activities/lessons. I would love to create a STEM Lab in my classroom for students to enjoy during center time and even some free choice time.
Science is everywhere around us, why not in our classroom?
Having a STEM lab available for my students to explore and express their creativity, problem solving skills, critical thinking, imagination, and curiosity opens a larger window into their interests in education.
The magnetic tiles and snowflake blocks help create and spark the students imagination and creativity. They help with learning colors, numbers, addition, subtraction, and also help with their fine motor. The links and gears will also spark their imagination, help with fine motor, social skills, logical thinking, and encourage learning of mechanics and engineering. Those are some examples on how these materials help the students explore science, technology, engineering, and mathematics by using them independently, within lesson, and even creating friendly competition.
