This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach at a Title I school in the 5th largest school district in the country, the Clark County School District in Las Vegas, Nevada. 100 percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Our school is in a low-income/high poverty area. Many of our students are not provided with the basic items they need for school.

Everyday, my students are faced with challenges both in and out of the classroom.

My students are funny, kind, smart and helpful. I teach 6th, 7th and 8th graders in Special Education, English and reading.

My Project

These materials will make a difference in my student't learning because it will provide them with books to read!

Many of my students do not have books at home to practice reading.

I would like to be able to read aloud to my Special Education students and have them follow along, right now I am just reading aloud to them. We have a "book room" at the school but other teachers have often checked out the good books!

I would also like my special education students to be able to silently read, to practice that skill. I am a first year teach however, and do not have the resources to fully stock my room with books for them.
