"Mrs. H, may I borrow a pencil?" I hear these words everyday. Growing up, I knew that there would not be a day that I didn't have my school supplies in order to complete work. My students do not have this feeling. I want to be the one person that my students can rely on to get what they need.
We have made it through half of the year, but already running out of basic supplies.
I teach in a suburban/military community with a group of wonderful students. However, our county has been having financial cuts for school and family. We are struggling to bring in supplies from home, as well as in the school.
Without basic supplies in the classroom, the students are struggling to produce the magnificent work I know they are capable of producing. Producing great colorful work, will encourage the students and motivate them more.
My Project
My students are in great need of pencils, paper, scissors, glue, and coloring supplies. Being a second grade teacher, a majority of what we do in class includes cutting, pasting, and coloring. Without the supplies to do these things students cannot get excited for school. Bringing these supplies into my classroom will absolutely change the environment of the classroom and the attitudes of the students. I plan on placing supplies in boxes for each group to have on their desk for the day. There will be no need to be discouraged by not having supplies.
Students will be inspired to show more of their creativity each day!
When students are given an assignment to create some sort of project, it is very discouraging to have to do this in pencil instead of brightly colored crayons and markers.
The students are also discouraged and embarrassed when they have to ask for supplies. Most of the time I am ready to give it to them, but lately it has been a struggle. Please help me provide these resources for my students to create more incredible art work and projects.
