My students need flexible seating to help ensure comfort and community in the classroom. Many of my students have specific needs in the classroom, and flexible seating will help me to better accommodate to all students.
Hello all! I am currently teaching 6th grade Special Education at South Grove Intermediate School. I service 30+ students throughout the 6th grade. I am currently trying to raise materials for my classroom next year as I begin teaching 5th grade. I am a first year teacher seeking flexible seating in my classroom. The students I service now are fun loving, humorous, and love a safe environment. I believe by creating an inviting classroom that meets the needs of each student, they will thrive and learn like they never knew they could.
It is my job to instill a mindset in each of my students that they CAN succeed and they CAN become something.
My students want to succeed, but often do not have the mindset instilled in them at a young age that they are capable. Each student works hard on a daily basis and appreciates trustworthy relationships with peers and adults. I would love to provide them with a classroom that focuses on community, collaboration, and comfort.
My Project
I believe that flexible seating will make all of the difference in my classroom next year. Many of my students have specific needs and accommodations. I chose the wiggle seats, yoga balls, and stools as the 3 types of seating to have in my classroom to ensure students have a choice. Many of their needs can be met through these specific seating options.
With the choice of different seating in the classroom, my students will begin to feel a sense of community and control in the classroom.
Flexible seating encourages students to share with one another. It also encourages students to pair up quickly. I also chose the bouncy bands and desk trays for students who may not need specific seating, but may need a simple accommodation to meet their needs.
