My Students

My students are a variety of ages. Our school is located on an Air Force installation with a highly transient population. This population is very diverse and due to frequent moves there may be gaps within the student's education. Right now the students and their families are not only facing a pandemic, but they are also facing upcoming permanent changes of station, deployments, and other large changes that often accompany being a part of a military family.

My Project

Research indicates that those with communication disorders often have later difficulties with literacy skills. These difficulties can often extend into high school and adulthood creating more difficulty with participating in general education curriculum. I am hoping that by incorporating weekly reading through a virtual platform or in person, along with guided lessons I will be working toward closing this gap. The addition of a variety of books will establish a weekly routine that is fun, practical, and engaging. It will also allow me to record sessions so my students can access the lessons at any time because majority of their families are still working.
