I have noticed that my students are more engaged and focused when they're working on hands-on projects, Â"even those who fidget during large-group lessons. In my classroom, I have figured out what research has revealed: The best way to engage kids' brain is by having them move their hands.
I haven't met some of my students for the upcoming school year.
However, I believe the hands-on activities I've selected will relieve some of the stress of learning so much material, and allow them to feel successful in my classroom. Any donation will be appreciated greatly by the students and myself.
My Project
Students will use the multilevel math activities and math learning centers in my classroom to help retain information they need to know with the more challenging standards for the upcoming school year. When you combine activities that require movement, talking, and listening, it activates multiple areas of the brain. Hands-on projects obviously engage kids who are tactile or kinesthetic learners, who need movement to learn best. They also engage students who are auditory learners, who talk about what they're doing, and visual learners, who have the opportunity to see what everyone else is creating. For social learners, the time spent in small group conversation will strengthen their knowledge.
Math is a subject that many students worry about.
Activities can help them to relax and enjoy the subject. Success in a math game or activity can increase confidence and give a sense of achievement. Remove the pressure that students can feel when confronted with a list of sums and allow them to have fun while learning. Furthermore, competitive activities can motivate students who otherwise would not make an effort through fear of failure.
