My Students

As the school counselor for K-4 students, I have a wide variety of developmental stages and academic ability to work with. I love being a part of our specials rotation because that means I get to see each and every student in their classroom setting at least once a week.

I love teaching about social emotional learning, how to self regulate, how to manage conflicts, how to identify feelings--and my students love learning about it too!

It's often hard to follow a lesson plan because the older students have so many interesting questions and stories that pertain to the topic. My younger students are just so loving and caring, they light up when I come to their room and bring a SEL relevant read aloud story.

My Project

Having a library of resources dedicated to social emotional learning would be a dream come true! These books and games can be used in a variety of ways. I have used many of the Julia Cook books as the base for a whole classroom lesson, and also for small groups or one on ones that require an intense focus on the SEL skill.

Please consider helping to provide a literature rich social emotional learning library for the students at my school!

The books I have selected, primarily books written by Julia Cook, are laser focused on social skills and social emotional learning standards, which are very much at the forefront of education today.
