My Students

The customary practice for years has been to teach to the middle of the class. However, many students are either below grade level or have the potential to be above grade level. Appropriate digital resources ensure that they are able to work at a pace that allows for their success.

In a typical small town in rural Alabama, our students come from very diverse backgrounds.

Think Through Math will give educational opportunities to students who may or may not have a parent at home that pushes them to reach their potential. This program will also allow motivated, advanced students to excel. Our school system provides each student a MacBook Air. This technology allows us to invest in software that allows for individual growth.

My Project

Think Through Math will assess the grade level of our students. Once any weakness is identified, those areas are targeted to bring the student to their current grade level and beyond. Allowing students to work at their own pace gives them ownership in the educational process and keeps frustration at a minimum.

As a middle school teacher, I realize that this is a critical time in their educational lives.

So often, students have a hard time recovering from the frustrations of more rigorous coursework. Catching them up rather that allowing them to fall further behind will keep students from falling through the cracks.
