Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you remember a teacher who always had new items. My students are in that predicament. We have received so many items this year from DonorsChoose that we are stacking items on the floor. It is very hard to organize the materials. Remember speech rooms tend to very small.
My students attend a school that is considered very high poverty.
Our school has many children from bi-cultural and bilingual families. We have some students that have intact families. Other children are being raised by one parent, a grandparent, or are in foster care. As the economy has tumbled, more of my students have become homeless and live in shelters or are bunking with other family members. My particular students also have other learning problems. Many of them are diagnosed with learning disabilities, autism, ADHD, Tourettes and medical problems caused by lead in their environment. These medical conditions often make having a disorganized room harder for them to learn.
My Project
I am requesting a steel 3 shelf book cart with casters for my students. This will help them focus on their work while in speech and language. It will also provide needed organization for me to find the materials I need to work with the children. Quickly finding needed materials is important when you only have 30 minutes work with a group of children.
A simple book cart may not seem to be a major item for learning.
However, if you struggle with distraction, you understand how organization and structure helps with learning. This simple cart will help my students focus on their learning. I can't wait til it arrives in my room. My students will say, "Mrs. B-your room looks so nice."
