My students are currently seeing science in black and white, but they need to live their life in technicolor with an awesome, color printer!
My students are ripe for change.
It is in this most important time of their lives that they create foundational habits. My twelve, thirteen, and fourteen years old kids grow up a community of Massachusetts. A large, post industrial town, this town is dubbed in poverty. Sporting a 53% high school graduation rate, many students in this community lack the support needed to have the opportunity to obtain a higher education or even just graduate high school. They look like a true product of their environment, but they are children none the less. My students are immature, they laugh, they make fart noises, they think their breakup with their 8th grade crush is the end of the world, they ask ridiculous questions, and they love Justin Bieber. My students are like so many other students - they don't always understand why they are the way they are. I am a firm believer that every single child in this world can learn. Far too often, all they need is a bit of a push from someone who cares.
My Project
Having a color printer will allow my students to present science research in a bright and meaningful manner. We will be able to complete our end of the year science capstone research papers and do so with the addition of colorful charts, graphs, and pictures of life science.
This project will have a huge impact on my students.
I want to be able to have my students work on projects and research papers in my classroom to the fullest. Without an in-classroom printer, our only option to do so would be in the library, which is constantly booked.
