Let's put thousands of words at the fingertips of our preschoolers! I teach full day preschool in a high-need public school. 100% of my class is considered to be "at risk".

With the ever changing expectations for our students and the need for them to be proficient readers and writers, I have an extremely critical job in teaching four-year-olds to be passionate about literacy! We write every day in the classroom in journals, class stories, dictations, and at every possible moment to promote the children to express themselves and to show comprehension. We do not have proper resources, such as picture dictionaries, to help support their writings.

Picture dictionaries, geared for the appropriate age group, would be extremely beneficial to have during journal exercises and many other lessons. The dictionaries would provide the students with the ability to navigate through the book independently in search of desired words. The picture dictionary would be an excellent teaching resource, in terms of learning alphabetical order of words, concepts of print, meaning and comprehension of words, proper spelling of words, etc.

You will make it possible for my students to evolve into proficient writers. They will have additional support when writing or simply when they're curious about what a word means or how to spell it. They will have the tools to answer their own questions and curiosities when it comes to words!
