My Students

I teach at a charter school here in Daybreak, Utah. Here, we have a wide range of students each having unique gifts that will enrich our world. We are a tight-knit community where the teachers, students, and families know each other on a personal level. My students love to read, and are at a wide range of reading levels. I want to provide books to accommodate all reading levels and to help instil a love for reading. Comic books are a fantastic way for students who struggle with reading to understand the story but still be exposed to advanced vocabulary.

My students here are eager to dream and expand their horizons.

It is my privilege to help them to not only dream, but to reach said dreams and to go beyond.

My Project

I have several students who are at a lower reading level. Comic books are a fantastic way to help them raise that reading level. The graphics allow them to understand complex stories and follow along without relying on their reading comprehension skills. With exposure to advanced plot elements, they will be more prepared to follow along with the twists and turns of a traditional novel.

They are able to build their reading level in a way that is engaging and effective.

Students will also be exposed to advanced vocabulary. Because of the graphics, they will have more context clues to decipher what is happening in the plot. This will translate to them identifying that same vocabulary in other texts.
