I currently have 3 through 5 year olds in my classroom. My students are currently part of my school districts intiative to secure assistance for preschool children coming from poverty stricken households. Many of the children in my classroom lack many of the crucial social and academic skills needed to succeed in Kindergarten. My children, despite coming from some pretty traumatic situations are eager and excited to learn. Research about the importance of preschool has shown that a positive and rewarding preschool experience has shown to increase the child’s success, not only in Kindergarten but in later elementary and secondary education. More than half of the children who enter kindergarten who have not had some prior preschool experience struggle with basic tasks such as writing their name and identifying all letters. Preschool promotes physical and mental activity, and improves brain function during the most important time in these children’s development birth through 5.
My Project
These materials will add additional support to materials already received in our last class project. The materials will enhance learning by helping them develop imaginative skills, and using materials that they otherwise wouldn't get to use. They are going to be helpful in the areas of math and science.
I am asking for more magnatiles and Legos which work very well on the light table and Lego table.
The children will be able to see their creations illuminate on the light table and they will be able to build great structures on the Lego table. They will love seeing their building grow and change with these new materials!
