Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Everyone loves to listen to music when they are being active! My students are no different. Music is a great tool to keep students engaged!
Our Charter school is on the south side of Chicago, whose focus is on the holistic child.
My students have PE everyday for 60 minutes. Everyday my students ask if they can have the music playing while they practice their PE skills. I have been using my own iPod, but recently it stopped working. On the days when we have no music my students' activity levels are less.
My Project
An iPod will help maximize my students' time in PE class. Studies have shown the benefits that regular physical activity has on academic success. Music is a positive contribution to reaching that goal!
As part of educating the holistic child students are taught how to relax and find peace within themselves. Every class ends with a cool down in which students rest on their backs and listen to relaxing music. This helps the students focus their energy so they can be ready to learn when they return to the classroom.
Help me open up a variety of options for my students.
With music I will be able to keep my students engaged for longer periods of time. I will be able to teach them dances and get them moving to the beat.
